The beginner basketball player can reach amazing levels! It starts with their FIRST STEP into the game of basketball. The goal of the program is to have players learn the fundamentals of basketball and graduate to the Skill Academy program by 6th grade. Our trained staff has experience in training players who need to acquire skills to compete on the basketball court. They will be sent home with homework of drills that they need to develop to play on a team.
When it comes to basketball skills, the earlier you teach shooting fundamentals, the better. Shooting 500 shots with the wrong technique does not make young players better. They need to get their mechanics right—placing their feet shoulder-width apart; lining up the elbow with the knee; starting low and finishing high; and using the wrist to get proper rotation on the basketball.
To be a great all around basketball player, you must be able to dribble the ball with both your right and left hand. Ball Handling is a skill that all players must develop – short or tall, small or large – all players can benefit from having good ball handling skills. To become a good ball handler, a player must learn the basic fundamentals and mechanics first, then advance from there.
In the game of basketball, footwork is everything. Proper basketball footwork could mean the difference between making a shot and missing a shot. Along with scoring and defending, proper basketball footwork affects every facet of the game including rebounding, stealing, blocking, passing and dribbling. The Basketball Factory puts an emphasis on using proper basketball footwork. Having great footwork can enhance your speed on the court and help you contain a faster player.
